Just wanted to kick off a thread regarding Big Blue's fuel mapping capabilities. We've all heard how great fuel injection is. You don't have to rejet anymore. When you travel to Colorado or indoors it just works without any adjustments, but I've never really understood it much. You buy an aftermarket product and slap it on and you have a couple different buttons. Cool. I've owned 3 fuel injection bikes and it's always been good enough not to mess with.
So I test rode a new 2012 Yami and it just ripped. I went out and bought an '11 for myself but when I got it on the track it felt very very wimpy. Definitely not a 450 I was used to. Wtf? The dude pitted next to me had this little blue hand held device (the GYTR Power Tuner) and offered to help. We hooked it up and about 5 minutes later we figured out the previous owner had changed the default factory settings. First thing we did was set it all back to zeros. It took about 2 minutes and the bike was completely different (better). It went from a 420 to about a 440. From that point on I was sold on fuel injection and Yamaha's. Since then I've tweaked it so it feels like the ripping Kawi I was used to. It still had a bark at low rpm and had a problem idling through the pits so I've toned down the low rpm quite a bit and now it's just perfect.
The point is you have so much control now with these bikes so don't be afraid to make changes to make your Yami the perfect bike for you.
The default settings are pretty decent all around. If you ever screw things up you can always go back to default:
Fuel
0 0 0
0 0 0
0 0 0
Ignitiion
0 0 0
0 0 0
0 0 0
Here are a couple good ones to start with from MXA. I've tried them all and they are noticeably different.
The SMOOTH would be useful for enduros or other types of riding. I went with SNAPPY for motocross and added the LESS HIT part to get rid of the bark. The tuner can store 9 settings for you so find some good ones that work for you.
