Found this list while looking on my PC for some old stuff. Kindof cool to read through the list.

Also interesting is that at quick glance I see 5 names on the list that are racing VET classes at Loretta Lynn's AMATEUR Nationals this year! JEEZ!

Doesn't make sense to me that you could race amateur when you've held a Pro license.

Way cool!

I have two problems with keeping old stuff. One is remembering I have and the other is finding it.... ;)

A lot of names on there that bring back memories. Only a couple though that are still riding the nationals....

Cool deal Pit!!

#56, Barry Carsten was super fast at Daytona in the Vet class in March. I think he could still quailfy for outdoor nationals.

I bet the ama and mxsports would let them petition down to C class! That way even c riders will be able to know what it feels like to line up next to former Pro license holders! It's good business!

I don't get it...so i held a pro card back in the late 80's and early 90's, qualified for some nationals and supercrosses, so that means that now that I am 41 years old I should only be aloud to race people who are racing at the level i was when i was in my 20's? Really? I don't have the right to race with people who are my own age and have the same life that i do now? I go to work, raise kids, coach soccer, etc, etc etc..... just like any other 30 or 40 plus racer but since i was fast when i was 20ish i shouldn't be aloud to race with anyone who is in my age category? PLEASE!!!

Half the people on here i see complaining about this are the same people who were on here praising Mike Katin for winning a couple of "Amateur" championships in the 30+ class a few years back. I think Mike's name is on the list with a national number above isn't it?? Do you want to tell Mike that he should give those championships back because he used to have a national number?

Unfortunately yes, yes and yes. It is no worse than going back to the C class. To race the 40+ class with x-pros like Dubach isn't fair. Some pros have kept in great shape and ride regularly and some don't. I am not sure that there is a fair anwer to this but it is no worse than making you ride the Pro class. They will be as far ahead of you as some of the past pros will be in +30, +40 and +50.

My daughter tried to qualify a few times for LL and could never get past all the pros from the WMA.

Either way you slice it, it isn't fair for someone.

Just my 2 cents.

Ex-pro license holder class?

That would be an idea.

Blair did you have a top 100 number? And do you still not have a job or kids like some of them ex-pro's? Guess you're good then!

Ex-pro license OPEN class should be fit for the remainding pros who want to ride. OR go, sign autographs...be known as a part of history and ride during intermission with RC and Emig..? And Katin has a job like you blair. So I don't know...more grey area. Sorry to upset you I don't want to turn this into a C class thread. Reynard won last year and is a former factory supported rider. If you had factory support ever...you shouldn't be racing +40 class and lapping up to 4th place 3 consecutive motos. c'mon. Blair...go for it, you won't be lapping up to 4th and you'll be having fun like what the vet classes are intended for.

no this is the A class thread :)

I was thinking an Open Pro Sport Vet class, comprised of rules like 30 or 35+, excluding those ever ranking/gained points in top whatever at end of season, up to x-many years back etc.

Also Ex-Professional doesn't equal Amatuer in my head, but it would be unfair to not allow them.

As for the womens class, it was somewhat fixed, "Riders earning a top 5 national ranking in the previous year WMX Championship may only participate in A, Pro Sport, and Age divisions (excluding the Vet B/C class)." Though you can get around this, say an injury, or the fact one doesn't Have to race Pro WMX. Taken from 2011 Supp rules.

so me riding an age class, of which i am within the requirements, is the same as riding a "riding ability" class? I don't believe that i have the "ability" to ride the A/pro classes anymore with limited practice time and defiantely not being in shape so i am not qualified for that class. but maybe i should move back to the C class like you say. GEE do you think parents will complain when Jr gets beat by a 41 year old man? please explain!

Spoken like someone who jsut doesn't get it!! Yup, full time job thank you. Yup 2 kids that have interests that keep my plenty busy, thank you. Ex-pro class would be great and i would love riding that class. Tell me super Georgie since you want to tell everyone what class they are qualified to ride what class do you ride? Or are you just a professional announcer now? So if you announce at any big national events does that make you inelligable to announce at locals?

And no i never got to a point where i got a top 100 national number, best i ever did was 6 points at the end of the year and it took 9 for #99 that year.

I would rather have the chance to race the ex-pro's. So if you lose, oh well, your not supposed to beat them. If you do well, or even get one by them, thats story that you will own forever. I would rather have an opportunity like that, than not have one at all.

Well if you look at it this way, the definition of pro (professional) is: "following an occupation as a means of livelihood or for gain." Livelihood being related to occupation, if your occupation is not or was not ever strictly "racing motocross," and recieving a paycheck along with everything being paid for outside your pocket, as probably 99% of the population is, then there really isn't any reason you shouldn't be entitled to race any class that is not designated as forbidding that status. Although I will still stick to what i said before, ex-pro doesn't necessarily mean amatuer. And it is the National Amatuer race. Until they change it, go for it. Do what you want and have fun with it. But it does look stupid when 1st place is lapping 4th place. That should be a battle if not close to it.

Correct me if I am wrong but didnt Katin race +30 A class ? +30 B/C does not allow ex pros. I dont think it is right because no matter the time I am sure that if you had the speed to have a pro license you are still faster than I am in +40. And to make matters worse in +45 and +50 they only take the top 3 or 5 from the regional. Who is gettting those spots ? I am not a slow rider but I would not be able to get a pro ticket either.

Easy fix, add a pro sport class for +35 and +45 and drop the new D class at LL

they don't separate them anymore, but i believe you are correct and Mike did win the 30A class one year, but he also won the 25 class once too i believe and that class isn't separated. don't get me wrong either as i am in no way bagging on Mike Katin!! I am a big fan of his and stopped by his tent the year he won both classes at LL daily to congratulate him on great rides.

Jeremy seems to have the right idea here too. I have raced with most of the guys winning the Vet classes at LL all my life and have always been a tick off their pace but it certainly has not stopped me form riding my dirt bike and trying hard!!

ah man, I'm not takin a stab at you. I'm all for you running your ability. I should of said this better:

Reynard having factory support and being a pro most of his living life....most of his living working life....yeah he shouldn't be able to. And he should know himself that he shouldn't be doing that. He had endorsement deals, was in Dirtrider magazine...signed autographs. I still got a poster of his with his scribbles on it. He battled RC in a Superdome for the lead in late 90 early 00 whatever year....He was making money in the sport. And whose to say that anything he was on at Lorrettas he paid for? Do you really think he worked like you do, raised his kids and paid for all that? If he did he's dipping into his Motocross earnings which still doesnt bring it out of his 9-5 pocket book.

Trust me I suck, I couldn't run a C class pace now, I'm not arguing there.. And i'm not a professional announcer by any means, I'm terrible at that as well. Or I'd get paid a salary to do it on a Television, I just like to watch the races and talk about what I see and call people up to the gate. I'm not being sarcastic, i'm taking your side here...really. I can't even afford to race, I don't know how some people can with mortgages kids...that's great money management that I can't seem to balance. I'm a moto junkie that has to punish myself by going to the track bikeless and watch everyone else do what I love.

I don't care what class anybody rides. I do care that nobody does anything about the people that ride classes they should not. But am do I really care if Reynard won +25 last year? No. Not really...do I think that's kinda dumb he got to race against guys like you who have kids and full time job? Absolutely.
