Just want to let the PitRacer faithful know that Marc the Sharc Baumann was found dead in his home today, he passed sometime over the weekend at home alone.

An Original PitRacer Posse member, he was active on this site for many years and many of us spent countless time at the track and other fun places with Marc over the years!!! RIP Sharc, ride all you want on perfectly prepped tracks and keep an eye out for the rest of us! Post your favorite Sharc memories here or in the Vet Forum if they would fit better there!!!

Here’s one for everyone:

As we were trying to ride better at Red Bud many years ago and race in the Sandy conditions, we were at an open ride day and I came up with the setting change of 8 clicks more on compression front and rear to handle the sand compared to our clay riding at home, Sharc yelled - 8 CLICKS NO WAY!!! But he went out next session and tried it and although he would never admit he was wrong - he smiled and just nodded when I asked him how 8 clicks worked on the track!!!!! That was the essence of Sharc, opinionated, brash, but willing to try something new if it was going to be better!!!! If it wasn’t, I was never living that down forever until now…….

And I got Sharc to change to the 4 stroke in 2003 after he rode my KTM 525SX and fell in love with the motor! We had more than our share of fun back in those days!!!!
 
Damn, sad news for sure. I only knew him casually from this board and brief chats at tracks over the years, but he was a core motocross racer and quite a character online. RIP Sharc.
 
Like Freeh, only rode with Marc a few times over the years but always enjoyed gabbing with him in the Pits.

Most of all I always appreciated Marc's presence here on Pitracer. Marc didn't always have a lot to say, but when he did keyboard into a conversation his perspective was usually brief and interesting, if not entertaining.

When I first came across Pitracer back in the early 2000's, I was thrilled to find the one reliable source for "all things dirt bike" for Ohio, as well as getting to know the community of those who actively rode and raced. Reading posts of guys like Marc the Sharc kept me visiting the site daily. I also found many of the crew on here were around my age group, some younger, some older. But now here we are 20+ years later and saying goodbye to old moto friends.

RIP brother, you'll be missed.

When I first started my business it was early on and I didn't have very much experience or networking in the industry yet. I actually didn't even know sharc personally. I just knew him from this board and seeing him around the pits.

I get a call from someone and they start with - Marc the Sharc told me to call you he said your the guy... I was baffled someone referred me to anyone at this point. My response was sharc like - Umm, ya that's me what's up? lol! he was always pushing for the people he knew and was a true moto enthusiast. Man I will miss him on this board for sure :(
 
Wow.. this is terrible.. Sharc was really great guy.. i loved coming to the track and talking moto with him... Rest in peace Sharc... you will be missed by this moto family...
 
wow, this is terrible news. He was absolutely one of the nicest guys I've ever met. Since the day I met him he treated me as if we had been friends our whole lives. I don't think I've ever seen him not looking like he's having the best day!

My story - I was young, probably only 20 or so and getting ready to go on a south trip with the old farts from this board. I had just sent my suspension out prior to the trip, and was supposed to get it back in time to go. I forget the details but the suspension place basically screwed me and I wasn't going to have forks, in other words I wasnt going on the trip. When Sharc heard that he reached out and without any hesitation said, take my forks! I think that was probably the 2nd time I ever talked to him.

RIP Sharc!
 
Lots of fun memories over all the years.
He was a huge proponent of this website all those years after I created it and was running it and we were the voice of Ohio MX. I certainly appreciate all of that for sure.

I'm sure Robin will remember this also but one of the funniest things was the whole "Hannah and her puppies" stuff on here....
Another super funny memory was after he got a vintage RM250 and rode it for like a month straight, and then tried to ride his modern KTM at Smith Rd for practice. One of the funniest things ever at the track that night. "IT'S JUST ALL WRONG!!!!" haha

You never know when your time is here; cherish all the moments you have!

Wow, I'm still in shock! RIP #2. I was all excited to hang out with you at Des Nations. You were a great friend and I loved talking moto with you. Thanks for all your insight, we are all going to miss you man!
