Cleveland SX?

Wow no talk on the Cleveland SX?

Crazy to think it's been 30 years. I remember going to the 1995 SX at the original Municipal stadium, which was on the same site as the current stadium. They had amateur day also, I did not race it but I know a lot of people that did.

I remember Mike Katin nearly getting the holeshot in the 125 main and jumping off the track in the first turn!

It was a weird, stupid track because the Browns/stadium authority did not want the track built over top of the football field. Since it was a baseball stadium that allowed them to build the track all around the edges for the most part.
Since the football field did not have track on top of it, they had fencing setup and fans could watch from inside the track! Probably the only time ever that has happened in SX.

Also interesting point is that the series was scheduled to come back again in 1996, but the Browns moved to Baltimore and the chaos that ensued caused the 1996 SX to be moved elsewhere.

Planning on wearing some retro 90's garb in honor of this race!

Check out the results -- Barry Carsten raced BOTH classes! I'm planning on finding him this weekend and asking him about that.

looking forward to it.. got a group of 4... hope the weather holds off.. getting to old to stand in the rain all day. talking to everyone at TV land on Sunday looks like everyone is going..

That's a good question, and will be a problem most likely.

Cleveland will have ALL THREE stadiums in use Saturday and parking rates will likely be jacked WAY up!

Cavs playoff game 1 is at Rocket Arena 1pm
Guardians play at Progressive field 6pm
SX at Browns stadium

I'll be taking the RTA train down there on Saturday!

I remember 1995 well. I had a baseball game in the morning that day. I ended up being hit by a fast ball and instead of turning away, I opened up to it. It hit me in the heart. I ran to first base and collapsed. Within minutes I had a dozen people around me and i was seeing stars. One of my teammates dads was a Cleveland clinic cardiologist. He said he saw the hit and watched the affects and he believed it had knocked my heart out of rythem. They told me to go to the hospital and I said no way im going to supercross after I leave here. He had monitored me on the sidelines for the rest of the game and I was telling him I was fine. He got my dad all paranoid and told him to check my heart rate every 30 minutes. He did that until about halfway through the night show lol. After that my dad bought all of north cantons baseball teams these little heart chest protectors. That was also my last season playing ball. Dad said ball, or bikes.. Well, 30 years later here we are. Lol

I too remember katin launching off the side of the track. I still see it on youtube crash videos my kid watches. Lol.

Im pretty pumped about this one too because ive been given the opportunity to be on the floor for this race. Bucket list item if you will. Ill do my best not to be like little Baker! Lol. I am bummed its looking like a mudder, but I guess living in the craphole state my whole life I shouldn't have expected anything less.

The 1995 race was my first time spectating a pro event. Didn’t McGrath come out in some shark fire breathing truck or something during opening ceremonies?

Yes! He came out of this truck.

I did race amateur day after watching the SX in 95!!! They modified the track to take away the triples by putting a jump in front of them, but the big surprise was the “little” doubles that we all assumed we’d jump easily watching the pros on Saturday were much farther spaced than you thought and were hard to jump and clear. It’s the only time my mom ever watched me race as we were able to secure a loge for amateur day too and so she came to the races! Luckily at 25 years old at the time, I was in full send mode and won a class for my mom to see! She isn’t coming to this pro round but my dad is!!! He was there in 95 as well but didn’t do amateur day!

Where is a good place to park? We will be getting there around 0900.
W3rd and St Clair are closed for the sink hole. So it’s a little tough for some lots.

The Pit is near the stadium and has quick access to the shore way. The muni lot always has tons of parking.

W3rd and St clair has a lot that’s across from the jail. Most people won’t park there cuz of the intersection. Being closed. Could be a sneaker line on parking. Only like 3blocks from the stadium. 10min walk.

You can also park in the flats. There are some lots there too.

Jack Casino has 2 garages. That’s not to bad either. But usually super expensive on game days.

There is also tower city. Usually around 20-25 on game days.

My wife and i will be attending! It’ll be here first SX race ever, sucks it’ll be in the rain, but it’ll be cool to see a mudder in person.

Went to the 95 Cleveland SX. Remember piling in my dad's conversion van with a handful of local idiots, listening to Alice In Chains, Nine Inch Nails on cassette tapes. Missing a turn, getting lost and yelled at by my friends. Normal Cleveland experience pre GPS. We were all like, "What the hell is that?" when we saw the track design.

Ready for a mudder Saturday. Much shorter drive and equipped with navigation vs 31 years ago. Shouldn't get lost this time.

I’ll be there, it’ll be fun rain or shine it’s SX and one of the best seasons in awhile!!!

I was also there in 95 & raced amateur day on Sunday also…. My buddy Curt raced a Honda XR650L dual sport bike with a license plate on it in the +30 class, I think he got 3rd!

haven't been to the stadium in 30 years.. was looking at the parking lots.. you guys that hit the browns' game what's a good lot to park at.. i know its all going to cost 50 bucks.. I'm sure.

Wish I could help you but I just don't know. 99% of the time I don't drive downtown -- I park at my office and take the RTA train down.

With Cavs and Guardians playing on the other side of downtown though you might want to try and stay near Browns stadium just to avoid traffic from those other games and higher Cavs playoff parking prices. Just a guess there...

Is there a big parking lot at the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame that we can use?

I haven’t been to downtown Cleveland in 30yrs…
