Zach Bell Dallas SX (spoiler)

I cant believe that Honda let him race both the LCQ and the Main. I know motocross riders are tough but there has to be a line of some sort. I thought I saw someone die when he crashed the first time. Then to see him in the LCQ you could tell he wasnt all there. Then in the main he smashed his head just the same. COME ON!!!! If you want a guy to ride with a broken finger, ankle, whatever thats fine, bones heal up. But a head injury is a different story.

Im pretty disapointed in Honda on this choice.

I agree, that was one of the scariest crashes I've seen, other than ur superman seat grab at my house! But no, kidding aside not real thrilled with Honda letting him ride, that is the kind of decision that can ruin our sport!!!!

Even though he laid there totally motionless for quite some time in the middle of the track, there are a number of couch docs on vital who feel he did not suffer a concussion and it was appropriate for him to race the LCQ and main! NOT!

The astericks crew checked him out and said he was fine. They have side lined other riders for concussions so if he had one then they would not have let him go back out.

He didn't have a concussion. He was talking in post interview fine. Concussed guys say: thank god for that neck brace. 400 times. And: "is that my bike? That's a Suzuki. Wow yea those are my graphics. I got a Suzuki wow. "

Good one Georgie. I still think even though he seemed ok to go out she shouldnt have. He is pretty much driving a 200 pound machine over 60+ ft jumps... not throwing a football. The risk of death is a lot higher and someone should have said no.

Yea he's making small mistakes that bite him hard. You can make those mistakes at mini os. But not in the stadiums. These Amatuers don't have experience on sx tracks.

Don`t forget that he crashed HARD in the 4 motos he did at 338 and Dilla. Eventually broke his back. Kid is skeeeeeetchy!

He looks too small and little-boy-ish to handle sx or mx at this pace. not saying he isnt really fast, and has the potential to grow into a great racer, but he is still a CHILD.

also, supposidly those 6D helmets are very advanced as a far as technology goes. i feel like their stock went up this weekend, even though they are kinda ugly lookin.

I thought that this was a good read.

I have a degree in Sports Injury Management with an emphasis in Athletic Training. I was an Army Medic. Since the initial days of the Asterisk Mobile Medical Center (AMMC) 10 plus years ago I have only missed 3 races. This includes both MX and SX. I have a rehabilitation / strength and conditioning clinic that specializes in Action Sports Injuries. I have devoted my life to Action Sports Medicine.

This concussion protocol that everyone is talking about, I helped write it. With the help of Dr. Reiman we began drafting a protocol based on information that came out of the 4th Consensus Conference on Concussion in Sport D. I reviewed over 50 collegiate concussion protocols as well as protocols for the NFL, NBA, NHL and MLB before finalizing what we think is a pretty damn good protocol. As far as we know MX/SX is the first motor sport that has implemented such a program.

The protocol is no secret and anyone that wants to see it only need message me.

Can the attending doctor also known as the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) be overruled? NO!!

Now to the Million Dollar question. What is the policy in the event of a KO? Simple, that athlete sits out the remainder of the event and then must follow AMMC return to ride protocol.

Does a rider lying on the ground motionless indicate he/she is KO'd? NO.
Is the probability high that the person is KO'd? Yes.
Until you actually begin your PHYSICAL assessment you can not say.

LOOK- are the eyes open? is the chest moving? Is the person moving? does the person respond to verbal commands?
LISTEN- Breathing?
FEEL- Checking the body out.

If upon PHYSICAL inspection you see the persons eyes open and immediately and coherently begins to respond to verbal commands what is the medical provider to think?
KO'd? NO.
Concussion? Probably, at which point the person will go to AMMC for further evaluation.

Browne at San Diego? Eyes closed, snoring KO'd? YES

What people need to understand is that everyone reacts differently to the various ways the brain can receive trauma. Direct blow to various parts of the head, whiplash injuries, rotation injuries. This is why it is so important to have a baseline test.

Is our concussion program set in stone? No. It is a constant work in progress as more information comes out we revise as needed.

Do I want to reach through the computer screen and choke some MFr's out? HELL YES! But everyone is entitled to their opinion and I have to respect that.
To the biggest s**t talkers of our program. Hit me up and come work with me for a day. Sign the liability waiver in case your ass gets run over. Sign the confidentiality waiver so you can't talk about who/what you saw in the truck. Then you can make all the calls on the track.

That is good reading and gives some insight.
BUT

If there is proof that someone is knocked out. He should not be able to race again.

In football if you get knocked out and put back in the game the worst thing that can happen is that you suck.

In MX/SX if you do not have your wit and clear head. You can die or cripple yourself or worse kill someone else.

KO'd your out for the night.

the tracks SUCK anymore, forcing block passes and close riding.
Its like watching arenacross.

Amen DD......I've said it every week. The tracks are set up to where guys with great speed and talent, RV, RD, CR.......are litterally stuck behind a guy with half the talent because it is a track that EVERYONE rides almost the same speed, with horrible one lined corners. SX tracks are horrible this year.

Bell or anyone for that mater should be pulled for the night as a get off like that had to rattle his entire body. One race or title is not worth risking
your life over. These guys are sub-human as I would still be laying there today....LOL!
