Check the cable adjustment. If you have too much or not enough tension, it can bind up. Happened to me and it was driving me crazy until I figured out that was the issue.

Yeah, if someone is really that much faster than you and can pass you on a jump, they should be able to pass you just as easily in a corner where it is safer for everyone concerned.

I'm confused......you said the motor locked up, but it won't shift into 3rd gear. Are you saying that the engine will run but the transmission won't go into 3rd gear? Stalls when you try to go to 3rd? Or the engine won't run period.
