The tight woods and hills that cover Southeastern Ohio have also produced many off-road motorcycling National Champions. Legends like Terry Cunningham, Jeff Russell, Scott Plessinger, Kevin Brown and Mark Hyde have all come out of Southern Ohio ’s District 11 and they paved the way for today’s top young stars like Cory Buttrick, Josh Gaitten, and Kailub Russell, to name just a few. Many of the riders have also earned victories in the Action Sports Team Hare Scramble Championship of the World, the largest event of its type in the USA . Two riders make up each team and only one team member can be on the course at a time. Each time the riders pit to make a switch, they pass the team’s bar code to ensure correct scoring. Since the event is after nearly all other series have concluded, the fans will get to see riders from other sports racing. Larry Pegram is one of the fastest Superbike riders in the country and the roadracing star has raced the team race for many years. Last year, Ohio ’s top off road racer Cory Buttrick teamed up with legend Mark Hyde to take the overall win and Hyde teamed up with Veteran motocrosser Joe Evener to win the morning program. While many talented riders will battle for the overall win at the Action Sports Moto Park , there will be another group also competing. Many riders only race one event each year and that is the team race because they have a chance to team up with a friend to try to beat other friends, they don’t have to get in great shape to go fast, and they get to lie about how fast they rode when the race is over. As always the dream is that “Age and treachery will beat youth and talent every time”. On Saturday the youth riders and youth ATV riders will race, starting at 11:00 am . There will be 3 programs on Sunday, the morning session starts at 10:00 am , the afternoon session is at 12:30 pm and the ATV classes take off at 3:00 pm .
