Video Camera suggestions (not gopro)

My wife just told me she would like to get a video camera. I wish she wanted a new HD gopro but could not talk her into it. Has anyone used the small hand held video cameras . They range from 100 to 500 bucks. looking to video Basketball games and kids outside playing. Any suggestions?
 
I'm in your same boat. Been looking and truthfully they're all really nice...and with the technology boom we're in you can get a super crisp picture quality for pretty cheap! Let me know what you decide on i've been looking for all kinds, JVC's Sony...
 
i really like my "Sony Handycam" camera they have a HD version and a regular. i am able to take video and take pictures on it..it is very versatile and its not big and bulky or anything...works great for making videos of friends riding and everything else. i cant remember how much i paid for it tho but i am pretty sure it was under 500
 
There are good brands of camcorder or video camera that can help you record a HD videos like Canon, Nikon or Sony.
