Can you seperate the sterring stem from the lower triple clamp or maybe better I should ask should you? Just curious as I am looking at swapping some forks, but the steering stem is about 1/4" longer so I thought if I could get the other steering stem in place, I'd be set. Either that or I will go with plan B, that was actually plan A, and just use some sort of washer to take up the space.

Now I understand the space difference, fork hieght/action, trail, all that may be affected in some way, but I am just looking at it. Tell me the dealio...

it can be done easily with a press, any machine shop or some auto parts stores may be able to help! i use a press at my work

Yep-- A press. What front end are you trying to put on what? I'm looking at doing the same thing by putting a front end onto something it doesn't belong on. I was looking at having a new stem milled and pressed into the tree I'm going to use. --L*64
