I dont think it was random. Something that he likely has talked with his wife and team about. At least thats what I assume.

I remember him saying 2014 I thought? Can't remember why. Either it was 14 years in SX or he'll be 34 or something like that. Things change I know.

Ok, officially KW is only out for tonight due to bad back--but expect an announcement on more tonight during opening ceremonies.

Wont 2014 be 20 years?

He wanted to retire in 2014 because his number is 14 as well. He is 10th in points right now so...
But I would think/hope Geico plans on keeping Tomac. He seems to be their only chance at a 450 title and could replace Windham

20 years and the number 14 is in the year(2014). I seen he will stay with the circuit and continue to do transfers for opening Ceremonies.

I read an article online where he had been interviewed and he stated that there have been some major hurdles in the mental game that he has not been able to overcome, stemming back from his crash at Houston last year. Uncomfortable, worried, etc. Can't blame him... I ain't no pro but I too reached a point where I was ready to say the risk ain't worth it anymore. I am sorry to see him go. He was one of my favorites. All of my favorites are retired now... makes me sad.

What a career and awesome to have 200 starts; would have been cool to see him win a big bike title or two...
Thought I read he has at least one planet fitness location so maybe it's now time to take care there and be home w/ the family more. Good on him!

Wonder why he decided to retire like that?

Ill bet he rides one event next year to hit that 2014 goal. And the guy looks freaking young. I remember when he was done after walloping his femur on a Suzuki. Came back....I know he's much older now, but I don't think the guy can stay off a bike! And being that close to 2014 he can't just stop now. Press release or not.
