A friend asked me the other day about some light rust on some engine internals he has on an engine that was split and never put back together. He asked if one could clean the rust off and still use them. My thought was no but then I saw all the talk about soda blasting. Could this be used to clean light surface rust off of some gears and such? I still think he needs all new stuff but it just got me thinking and now I'm curious. Thoughts? Thanks.

Clean it all, spray down with wd40 or any light oil to prevent from happening again. I wouldn't junk it all unless the rust started pitting the parts

Ive used something called metal rescue, you just soak the parts in it and it removes the rust.
