We went to the North Central Area at Sunset Ridge Mx
Super easy drive - I-80 the whole way & ya end up in Walnut Illinois -
My first time ---
SUPER FUN TRACK - !!!!
Great for racing with options in every section - So Fun !
A silty, kinda sandy, dark dirt with not a rock to be found
Manicured - like a golf course. Simply beautiful.
Practice not overly wet and ran through quick
We started the day with the first gate drop 2 minutes behind schedule
They kept banging out the moto's in quick fashion
Guys on the PA were good at calling the action and keeping us intune with the running order
No intermission, straight into the second set
Specific, single spot, track clean up and light watering between a few motos kept it perfect

Very nice!!!!! Glad they had good weather! Sounds like a few places last weekend struggled with the weather.

Awesome! That is one of my favorite tracks. Glad to hear it is still a great facility. I last rode there in 2007.
On a related note, they always have a round of the MXVets series. This year it is in July.

Going into the weekend - it was supposed to be perfect.
They were going to get wet on thurs, friday then have glorious sun for the weekend
When we got there Sat afternoon it was 91, full sun and HOT.
Then all of a sudden Sat night it changed and was a 50/50 chance on Sunday.
The rain was coming - but when?
We had a light sprinkle midway through the second set - but they kept the racing going and the track never got slick.
Pushing through, all the moto's were wrapped up by 3:00
The bikes weren't even dirty - never even took a scraper to em'

Ok, Since you guys asked ………

On Saturday evening we checked out the closest “town” to Walnut - Peru Illinois.
It’s a killer little place with a clean, hip and historic down town area full of shops, pubs and bistros.
We picked a place called Thyme
It featured all locally sourced food.
They would list the farm, location and co-op. with every meal. – Sic.
All in house, handmade sauces from scratch.
No freezer – menu changes daily.
We started with a rock cubed cocktail and some Korean Chicken wings tossed in togarashi spice & go-chu sauce.
For the main, we both had a grass fed, local sourced Angus burger with butter braised onions, house made pickles, remoulade sauce, on a fresh bakery egg bun.
For the side, we went with the homemade potato skins – best I've ever had.

If ya get the chance – check out the town of Peru – it’s funky!!!!

Kinsey's favorite, headed there in 2 weeks. We usually hit Niel and Shortys BBQ in Princeton. Its pretty good. That must be a pretty dated track photo, I don't think I've seen that layout, at least not in the last 5 years.

Yes, Track photo is dated - stolen from the interwebs...I'm lazy.
They're proud of the place - Up keep is actually tighter than in the pic - Like a golf course, so crisp.

Check out Peru - it's the town just before Princeton

Peru, that's a hike from the track. Probably 45 minutes?

Yeah I don't even see the concession building or general store building in the photo, and the gate looks turned from what it is now.

Did you get a homemade waffle cone?

Sunset Bob is a super good dude, but DO NOT challenge their staff with pit riding. They will straight take the pit bikes. Ive seen it.

Yeah, Peru is 40 min from the track.
The Americinn Princeton was booked ......and I'm not staying in a $60.00 Super 8 in BFE Illinois.
So I picked Peru ....

.....YES - it's an old photo ---
The place is the bomb - It's better than the pic I chose !!!!
More infrastructure, better track layout - all of it.
Hell, there's a JUMBO ant-hill triple in the center of the track that's not even in the pic

No waffle cone - but they were pumping up the local Ice Cream over the PA-

Next Time -
