Hit up Sunset Ridge for the AQ this weekend. Met up with Kreps Saturday evening and caught up BS'n around the hot tub. Sunday came quick after a 7.5 hour rip over there Saturday. We wont talk about my riding but I accomplished securing a spot for Lincoln Trail. Track was fun but wouldve been more fun if I had my bike set up properly. 2 laps of practice was sketchy to learn the couple bigger jumps (that I actually sent the first lap because I caught a good tow lol) and I never really found good lines to use in such a short amount of time.

Was cool to see Dave Jones showin up and still rippin! Guys an animal.

Some thoughts from last weekend I hope you'll find interesting:

Mansfield Speedway - I only got 2 slow laps before it started raining (weather said 2ish, not 12:30!). IMO, the track has a rhythm lane that could be tempered down/tabled, and they will need time to figure out their soil, watering, etc. They did offer a rain-out ride anytime this year, which is very considerate, as it was spendy to get in ($20 track entrance and $30 practice). I'll go back after they have a few events.

Honda Hills - In certain sections, they added some materials to the soil. In others, last year's rocks had baby rocks over the winter. I know it will always be an issue there because of the line of shale that runs through that area. They made a few track changes, like a new double off the ski jump, and they somewhat fixed the big double in the back by making it into 2 smaller triples. The conditions got away from them, and dust became an issue 2ish. I do believe they are trying. Additionally, Sat was part of a race weekend, so they asked if you were there for the weekend or just to practice. Large turnout. $40 practice cost.

Briarcliff - So nice to be riding on that soil! With a few exceptions, the track layout is pretty much the same as late last year, just running in reverse. Things were soft and early in the year, so I basically just rode around, lol.

Excited to hear that @mshafer62 and get to BC here in a couple weeks for the AQ. I am expecting a larger turnout in the vet classes. I talk to alot of the active racers in the 25/30 classes and they are 'planning' to be there.

I'm turning in whatever position I get for a spot at Redbud. I fell off pace a bit this year with my usual fast pass at Budds Creek. I have not been to BC yet. I am going with meisters method, ride it on my toes behind the guys that do. I know that local smokal, media fool, riding a blue bike better be there! I have been seeing him hype all these ads up but seems to miss me everytime at rt62!

FYI...BC has another open practice 4.18 & 19. Then it's 1 event per month.
JO mentioned last year that he intended to reduce the number of days he planned to be open...

If its not soaked and I have it in me after a long day in Cleveland Saturday, I may shoot for Sunday if that's the case.

Eastfork was good this weekend not a huge fan of the new section but it was okay. Track in the morning both days wasn’t great as weird just like the water and tiller couldn’t get deep enough was very slick and slimy. Came around by the time the first motos happened rode alright definitely got some s**t to work on but good turnout had 600 or so along with about a million other events going on I’d say it was good. I rode alright nothing special got some s**t to work on but solid rides I tend to make my best race the last moto of the day everytime. Onto a LL qualifier next weekend going to try a north central in IL called Indian hills never been so we will see what that’s about

My dozer hour meter indicates otherwise. I would say it the other way, with a few exceptions the track is entirely different, not just direction. I think the only part untouched is the starting gate location and couple inside jumps I left, and the roller that followed the step up last year were the only things not reshaped or modified. I have area photos and drone coverage. I’ll break them out!! There 150’ of rollers for Christ sakes. We moved 400’ of infield fence.

From a super duper high level, like if you rode from 10k altitude looking down, I’d agree same track, different direction, but ehhhh I don’t think so.

Briarcliff’s reverse layout was fun and dirt was primo on Sunday!!! Fun to have options but also great to know that when you show up to certain tracks, it’s going to be as good as Mother Nature will allow this time of year. Briarcliff wasn’t muddy, wasn’t dusty, and was rutted up around the entire track for great practice. As my first timeout this year, just fighting arm pump and other muscles that I don’t use when I’m not riding, but a smile on my face enjoying every minute!
