Alpinestars Bionic Neck Support

Anyone know what the difference is between the Bionic Neck Support that is priced at about $530 and the one that goes for $290?

Thanks.

I just got the $290 version a few days ago. I believe the only difference is the material the brace is made from. The more expensive brace is mostly carbon fiber, and the cheaper one is made of reinforced polyurethane. Havent had the chance to wear it yet.

How is it on your shoulders? Here is what I'm getting at.

I have a Leatt and landed on my head at Ram Jam a few years ago and seperated my right side AC joint. Horribly painful, I could feel the brace push into my shoulder and move it downward as it happened.

I just crashed at Casey, IL LL qualifier this past weekend and after a few days now I realize that I have a slight AC seperation on my left side.

I've never had shoulder issues before, I absolutely know this is coming from the Leatt. I don't want to go without a brace but I need a different brand that doesn't put pressure on that spot on my shoulders.

I got one this winter and kind of have mixed emotions about it. I wanted to get something a little less restrictive than the leatt as I moved to the ufo chest protector that the brace sits on top of. The leatt stuck up to high on the sides and I felt like I had no neck. The bionic is much more comfortable with my setup as it sits lower around every contact surface around the neck. What I don't like about it is the fact that it just feels cheaper than the leatt when holding it in your hands, not as solid. Once its strapped on it feels like it would hold up just fine, I am just kinda picky I guess. I also don't like the fact that it has no padding on the front deck. They run huge IMO I am 6 foot 170 and the medium was wayy to big, exchanged for a small and if it was not for wearing the protector under the brace that would also be to big.

Pit, def go try them on as I feel they all fit everyone different. Allan doesn't like the Leatt cause he can't look down. He tried the a-star one on with a helmet and it never caught his head when he tilted it back. He went with the Omega, he really likes it and doesn't complain about it.

Don't know but does the new Leatt chest protector add an attachment to provide more support?

Just pad your rim of the bottom part of the helmet and lose the brace...nobody is getting hurt less with these leatts.

I read of a guy in Europe that was wearing a neck brace and crashed, the brace broke his colar bone so bad that it severed a big artery(spelling?) in his neck killing him. Just saying. I`m with you Porgie.

thats not the only case of that happening either.
add in the theories of thoracic spine breaks, and severe sternum breaks... doesnt seem worth it to me. especially when people are still breaking C vertebrae with them on as well.

Im with john. The omegas have really stepped it up with the new design they have out. as far as the difference in the alpinestar braces. the cheaper one has more comfortable padding but weighs slightly more. so if your convinced on the alpinestar brace the cheaper one is the way to go.

I keep reading all this bad stuff about these neck braces and it makes me wonder if i should buy one. i really need to get my son one... just not sure what brand. My son is 11.... what brace is best for kids???? or do i take a chance let him ride with out one after all the bad things i keep reading about from people who had them on and crashed.... I dont know if you guys read the jimmy button interview in mxa, but he said he just tipped over and hit his head going like 2mph, looks like you can get hurt at any speed.

if im not mistaken, button was on the sitting lap, and tipped over in the whoops. and yes, it can happen doing anything. when i was in the hospital i heard some crazy stories. stuff you would never think of and people are now stuck in wheelchairs. a guy tripped over an extension cord walking backwards. a girl got hit with a stray bullet driving down the road. kid walking through a barn and a hay bail fell on his head.

Omega makes a youth brace. I believe there the best especially for youth. the only thing about the omega is they don't really work with any over chest protector well. Omega has a different design in the back than any other brace. it prevents from putting pressure on the spine.

I have not read about a lot of bad things from braces......I think it is like a seat belt. You can always find that story about the guy that lived because he did not have a seat belt on....My guess is the statistics would prove your better off wearing the Leatt, than without.

I have the Omega, and have no problem using it with my new HRP, and didn't with my previous Fox AirFrame.

The new Fox chest protector fits a Leatt fine, and says it will fit the omega fine, but not the A-stars brace.
