Alright track owners/promoters/instructors... Will someone step up and make a practice day for the little guys? We have 273 tracks in this state and I don't know of anyone outside of Rt. 62 in the winter time that has ever had a youth only practice and or race. PLEASE someone have a kids on practice day. I don't care if its a Tuesday you can bet you would have a pretty good turnout. (Before school restarts) Heck, charge $50 and I will still be there and I know a bunch more parents that feel the same.
Not a pee wee track. A real track, with real prep.

Not worth the time and hassle for the maybe 10 riders they'll get. Ride the big track like the rest of us did growing up they'll be fine.

Tell that to Smith rd and Apple cabin. Their pee wee and mini tracks have been packed lately. Smith rd reduced the price of the pee wee track and the turnout has been crazy lately. My son loves it now just because there are lots of kids to ride with. Honestly I search for places to ride with other 50cc kids on PW's or small KTM's, its tough and kids get bored riding by themselves. Most of the races we have been to have 4 kids racing in the beginner 50 class. Its not conducive to learning to race.

We have taken our G-kids to Briarcliff to ride twice now. They are hooked, and the oldest keeps asking me if they will be open this weekend, and can we go? He's wearing a track riding around my house.

I've been at Smith for the last 2 weeks. 10 riders on the pee wee track tops. Had a few 65's and 80's on the big track, no issues.

I've been to Smith Road until they separated I won't be back I don't like split practices either but I also don't like being out there pushing and come over a hill and there some kid on a trail bike it doesn't know how to stay on the track in about get him hurt me hurt it ain't worth it like the track it was good practice was not worth hurting some little kid

Putting a kid on a 50 on a track with big bikes is irresponsible. No matter how fast the kid is or how experienced. I love this sport and have been in it for 40 years, but I would quit today and never look back if my son had to ride with big bikes.
Why not big bikes 9 to 2 and youth 2 to 7??? The pro practicesers don't have to worry about sessions and the kids get the same... I guess I just don't see the down side of at least trying it... Now if this is currently happening somewhere, please let me know. I will make the drive.

I certainly relate to everyone's issues and comments on this topic.
Our 6 year old has had two visits to Briarcliffs' pee wee track, (his 1st track experience). On the second visit he rode like a million laps. He rode a little slow, cautious and smart, never dropping or flopping once and had a great time.

I'm trying to keep a clear head about all of this though. Like most, I want to see him advance and grow his riding skills, and so far, really, he is doing quite well. I want him to get more experience and skilled at harder terrain. But there's the other side of me that says...... "Slow down, be patient, and just let it come gradually, there's no reason to hurry things here". And I'm really on my guard about him not getting injured. ( more than the little stuff ).

As Rocket Robin once said, I want him to be a rider for a lifetime, and enjoy the sport/hobby for what it should be. For the Love of Dirt Bikes.

I heard Fly MX park (Guy Longwell) in Fly, OH has race days for Minis only. I'm sure you can check the web site. Remember, just because they are not part of some acronym doesn't mean they don't have good things happening.

What do you mean separated? There has been a beginner track and big track for at least 30 years, the only thing we did was expand the beginner track to give the kids more room to ride instead of the little circle they used to have.

I mean when I was on the big track I come over a jump an there some kids on trail bike going back and forth cant hold a line and bout crash both of us. Im all about open practice except when there are people that dont belong out there. Im willing to sit once a hour for those that want to try the big track but this has to be monitored I didnt see one person watching over the track that had 30 places to come on the track.

Ah because you said " until they separated" implying we changed something. We do in fact have what we call a "safety officer" his name is John, he is a retired firefighter/paramedic he comes to every practice (first guy there/ last to leave) he is either by his trailer next to the concession stand or out riding the track checking things out and he speaks to many riders about safety precautions he even made up a new set of rules about these things that get handed out at the gate when you sign in. Michael, Zac, Alex and Ty also try to help Larry police the track as well, but people do slip by.You can always fill us in and we can do our best to address the issue. Heck I'm in the concession stand and even I end up throwing people off the peewee track at times or calling one of the guys over to get someone off the big track. In my personal opinion this sport would be much improved if the younger novice riders would listen to the older guys a bit and the older guys would take the time to patiently explain what the issue is. I see this happen a lot but we also see the older guys scream and get physical with the younger guys and the younger guys ignore them or be disrespectful. It's hard to see as a mom with Moto kids. I hope they always take advice respectfully and listen to what the older more experienced riders have to say & that they never encounter an older faster rider that yells or puts hands on them... Because this mama would redefine crazy if I saw my child being assaulted by an older rider over a mistake on the track.

Sounds good to me. How about Briarcliff closing the C track to big bikes once a month? 50's and 65's only.

How good is the mini track at Apple Cabin? I haven't been there for about 5 years.

Great idea, but no way to inform those people without internets though, or many of the people for that matter. I know screw them, sounds easy, but they will still be pissed and do 4th gear holeshots up the driveway when they leave. We had people pissed on KTM Demo day, because the C track was reserved for Demos.

we talked about doing this in the fall after the fair races and battle series was over. Would be good to do since we do mini indoor series all winter. Pick a date CK and we will try it!

How about just doing 2 sessions each practice day for each the 50 and 65 kids ? 15 mins per session, thats one hour out of the day. The rest of the time its to the pee wee track for the slow ones?? Or is that too much a pain in your ass and not worth it ?
