I'm seeing posts on FB saying Barney was injured at a track while protecting his kid. Post indicate a head injury and he is at Akron City hospital, in ICU.

Sending prayers for him, thought folks here could add theirs, and good wishes for a complete recovery.

Hope everyone is fine. The kid that crashed into him has broken leg and is getting surgery . Hate to see people getting hurt.

Reports this morning say he woke briefly, knew his sister, know his name and birthday. They say,"Far from out of the woods, but this was improvement."

His son wrecked on the tunnel jump, I couldn't see him, but I'm assuming his bike was in the track. Barney stopped on the top of the landing. He stopped right in the main line. Someone jumped the tunnel and his back wheel hit the back of Barneys helmet. I heard he was conscious at the track. I also heard the kid that landed on him broke his femur.

From his wife on FB tonight.

"Update on Barney Barnett. He is currently still in ICU. responds to some questions but doesn't open his eyes. Answers some questions correctly, but others are wrong or he just states "I don't know". He's been sleeping most of the day. Dr is ordering another cat scan of his head. Thank you for all of the prayers and support."

sending prayers!!! Anything dealing with the brain is such a slow healing process. Have patience and stay positive especially around him, He may not be responding but he may be able to hear. When I was being brought out of the coma the doctors required very little stimulation. My mom would just sing to me, I would mouth the words because I didn't know how to talk yet. Please keep us updated on here!!! And if you have any questions, feel free to ask me. I may not know everything, but I do know a lot about living with a brain injury and I want to help anyway that I can

Barney is making minimal progress... not waking up or hasn't ate yet. Becomes very agitated when you ask to many questions. Mostly answers yes or no. Still on the ICU And he was knocked unconscious at the track. I'm hoping he will just open his eyes and speak a whole sentence. I love you Barney Barnett with my every being. Kids miss and love you too. Thank you for all your prayers and kind words.

Please keep us posted. We are all wishing and hoping for the best.

Also, anyone have any update on the other rider involved? Who was it? Is he doing ok?

Thanks for the update!! Have they done a mri? What is their current diagnosis? If he is still struggling with responding, I highly recommend you transfer him to Metro Health. I am sure Akron is a wonderful hospital, but Metro is the trauma hub and will be able to start giving you answers and help you to fully understand what all is going on.

The other kid is Austin Smith, he's 14 I think? Broke his femur, and the process was a little longer because the bone went into the muscle, but in the healing process now. I saw that on facebook.

You need to get him to Metro. They are the best in brain trauma. One of my employees has just had the pressure released and home walking and talking at 75 years old. (last week)

Her brain was pushed 17mm up and 14 mm to the right. Within 4 days she was talking walking and eating. Insist on Metro.
