how the hel l did that place close????

Scenic could never really overcome their expenses in order to stay in operation. It was a big, national style track that had big expenses to operate and prep and they needed big turnouts that just didn't happen regularly enough.

I missed it in its heyday, I only made it there the last year I think it was open. It would have been nice to hit it in its glory days!

i remember riding my xr100 on the big track.. that was fun

then the 80.. then the 125. thought dad's mustang wasn't going to make it up the driveway on more than one occasion. bummer i never really got to ride that place, was always too slow. killed the peewee track tho IIRC

Damn, I forgot how cool that place was when fully prepped on race day. I had some of my best rides and races at that track. Miss that place a lot. No current OH track that I am aware of really matches Scenic on a good day. DMX153 and I went there about two years ago to check it the water trucks that were for sale. The track has deteriorated so far it was unbelievable. Damn shame. I never understood and still don't understand why that track was not successful.

I was working at Midwest Motorsports at the time and Tim was good friends with the owner. We got to go check the property out before the track was even laid out. We were in aw! There wasn't even a driveway up the mountain yet. We had to park down at the road and hill climb our bikes to the top and the you could see the vast estate! It really was amazing! Once the track was laid out it was pretty much unridable. There were so many rocks it was rediculous! We were out there many weekend loading rocks into Jordan Dukes truck bed... It was futile. Tim eventually got a rock picker and ran it constantly! For those who rode there, I'm sure you remember the ROCKS! But it really was Amazing what Tim did with that place! We had a few years of fun out there before Tim had enuff. I think he was even commuting from the Cleveland area to newcomers Town! Yikes! It was really fun while it lasted! I've even got a nice scar on my eyebrow from a boulder smashing through my goggles! Good times!

Loved Scenic as my all time favorite track in Ohio!!!! Lots of good memories there, and the finish line triple was originally just a rise to another level landing that was really hard to do. Some factory Suzuki guys were there tapped out on their factory 250 2 smokers and couldn't get to the upper level of the natural jump and I had a brand new 2000 KTM 520 SX that had more power than any other bike on earth at the time....... and I said - I can make that!!! I ran that thing wide open in whatever gear and cleared the top level....... Tim and the Pitracer Original Posse were there that day and it opened up a whole new can of worms for people to try! Tim made it into a triple and it was one of the most fun jumps that I ever had the pleasure of clearing....

I also loved the Horsepower Hill in the back, the original huge one that went from way down low all the way to the top. Dave Hand and I had some epic battles at early Scenic races where I'd get him back there every lap and he'd get me back somewhere on the front half of the track. Every lap we'd go back and forth in super high speed passes that you just never got anywhere else. Lots of fun in those days!!!

Scenic was also the place that the illusive Pink Pony made it's one and only race and lives as a sort of urban legend within some small circles of the Pitracer fanatics of long ago. Long live the Pink Pony!!!!

Ha, check this out!!!
I found an old helmet cam from 2005. This is pretty crappy 240p (before GoPros) and the audio is really quiet so you have to put your sound WFO in order to hear anything.

I don't even remember this day but I obviously setup Jon16 with the camera on a practice day.

By far my favorite track also. I miss that place more than anywhere I've rode. The rocks seemed way worse in the video than what I really remember. You just learned to not ride right behind people. Some of my best riding memories are from there. I was the last one on the track on the last day it was open. I just remember thinking to myself that I didn't want to stop bc I knew it the end. :(

Maybe I was young and unobservant, but I didn't think it was rocky back in the beginning, like 1999-2000. It looked Epic then.

It def had rocks, but not horrible. Most people would be nice and stop and move anything huge off the track.

The one thing that stood out at scenic was the 'flow'. Tim had a knack for laying out the track perfect with the hills, right size jumps, etc.

Everything went together perfectly.

I don't remember it being to rocky at all... Tim all ways gave it 100% when it came to prep... lots of memories there from my sons first ride on a big motocross track to breaking my leg and driving home 2 hours with my left foot... wish i could go back 10 years and ride a few more laps...

The rocks depended on prep. That video is from November, likely a late season "just open up and ride" sort of deal with a quick discing and no water.

Sometimes when the Prep Gods all aligned it seemed like there were no rocks.
