POD Knee Braces

Hey guys,
Just wondering if anyone has worn the POD knee braces, after 17 years of riding I am just now looking into getting knee braces. Recently I've had a few scares and my knees are not in good shape as it is, if anyone has any news on these please let me know good or bad. Thanks guys!
 
My husband has them and loves them. His one knee is totally rubbing bone to bone and those braces have bought he more years of riding time before he has to have a knee replacement. He use to tape them and would be sore for a couple days after riding, the braces have eliminated the soreness and swelling. You can get them with a prescription if you can get a dr. to write one for you.
 
Interesting. I have a set of custom fit braces I got some time ago. They either need replaced or refurbished and I am trying to decide which route to go. I tried some off the shelf models a couple years back and did not like them. I may have to check these out. I see a few shops in the Akron/Canton area including Kames and Iron Pony closer to me carry them. http://www.podmx.com/

My knee and shoulder surgeon's office seems to work with Don Joy braces now. The braces I have are EBI braces that seem to have done as advertised, but would like to get something more mainstream and easier to get parts and service for.

If you use insurance for the POD, did you purchase from a MX dealer and send in for reimbursement? Or did you Dr order them for you?
 
Have always used custom CTI braces. I would not even ride without them on... 2 years ago my ortho dr. got me very interested in POD'S so I switched. Are they as good as custom CTI'S YES! I have very loose knee's 3 surgery's. I even like them better then CTI's lighter weight better form fit. Parts are so easy to get.
Recently one of my son's had complete ACL surgery. He has CTI's but likes his EVS pro-axis better.
Some it up. I think all of the brace manufacture's are very good today. Each on has a pro & a con.
 
I have a new set of Pod K300 that I have ridden with one time, so maybe not the best review. IMO they are not as comfortable as the Asterisk Cell's that I had before, and my knee's were pretty sore after the ride, which was usually not the case with the Asterisks. As I said, only 1 ride on them, so I may be able to fine tune them.
 
Thank you guys very much, the reason I was choosing the POD is because we (Pro-Action of Northern Ohio) are a WPS dealer and I noticed that we had those and also the EVS braces, though the EVS are quite a bit more.
 
Call pod ask them the prescription code to gve to your doctor. Make an orthopedic specialist appointment and they'll write the script for you.

Neither would be fun, and I'm certainly not a doctor, but I guess it's easier to fix a femur.

I had raced for 41 years before I ever had a semi serious knee injury. Someone high-sided directly in front of me, and I just reacted by planting the outside leg to keep myself from crashing. Didn't even know I had done anything for about half a lap, and then wow, that's painful. The worst thing for me was that I compensated for the hurt knee and put a lot of stress on the other.

My knees aren't terrible for a 53 year old who has raced dirt bikes since I was 10, but I consider knee braces mandatory for myself now, in order to continue riding.

Moral to the story, IMO get knee braces before you hurt them.
 
I should of stated that I have the CTI braces that I got with a precription as well. I am pretty sure you can only get these with a prescription unlike the pods that you can buy as some mx places.

My youngest step daughter did break her femur with the Pods on. My husband ask the orthopedic surgeon about the braces. Her response was wear the braces, the femur brake is the lesser of two evils. Recovery time is close to the same but the bone will heal, the knee will never be the same.

Silly John Boy... The brace doesn't cause the broken femur, the hit you take does. If the hit was stong enough to break you femur, just imagine what it could have done to the soft tissue, muscle, ligaments, catilage, etc., etc. I have all kinds of aches and pains from my knees, especially the left one, from the days before I wore braces. My broken femur that I broke in half "because of the knee braces" ??? Don't even realize I ever broke it...

So you are saying the off the shelf POD's are as comfortable as your custom CTI's? Hmmm... This is such a timely conversation for me. I call the brace rep yesterday. I will be gathering info and making an appointment with her soon.

My brother and Dad both use the CTI's unfortunately both destroyed their ACL before the braces, plain and simple, I do not have the money for CTI braces..

I guess listen to a doctor but my knee does not bother me near as much as my femur plus shorter leg causes back problems. Had brand new CTI knee braces for 1 ride and had a moderate wreck that led to a broken Tib & Fib and i don't think that would have happened without them so they were returned.

My knees are probably toast now.......The thought of a broken femur to me is not pleasant.

Yeah, the thought is scary, but the actual dealio is much worse. ;)

As was said, pick your poison. My broken femur is fixed and actually probably stonger than before due to stainless rod going down the center of it. I had to do the surgery twice as the first rod was too short and ended up bottoming out in my femur. Always thought that was the worst surgery ever. A rotator cuff surgery takes the cake by far. Of course, broken femur surgeries were 10 years ago. Cuff was just 4 months ago. :)

Don't wish any of it on anyone. It all sucks to be honest...
