A great way to get a taste is at your local harescramble. I recommend a team event with up to 3 riders. Group up with your buds and gain some memories of a lifetime. They may never do it again, after a good thrashing but the stories. I convinced a few trail buddies to do a CRA event at BigGame years ago. Neither of them were Race guys, not that I'm one. I had experance and ashured them this was a big trail ride, just ride to finish. The DRZ400 with the electric start got the start...first race=hole shot! I got a pic of my buddy eyes bugged out coming out of the first turn. My only advise was if you should you get out front hold it to the woods, then slow down pace yourself and breath. It's been 10yrs we still laugh about that day, every time we see each other.
