Battle Series by the numbers...

It is great to see motocross EVENTS back in Ohio... I was only able to go to one of the three races but it is clear to see that this is exactly what moto in Ohio has needed for the past 10 years or more.
So with all the good feelings floating around I thought I would put some numbers out there, can't help myself, that's what I do...

3 races with a total of 1160 participants. That is an average of 386. VERY nice. We have not seen numbers like that since... well, never. (Yes I know, Kenworthy's got more then that, but its dead so we act like it never happened)

Of that 1160, only 177 were quads, That is just 15%. BUT the quads had 11 classes to choose from and that is 30% of the day... Numbers don't lie (Don't hate on me, those are the numbers.)

Several classes fell below the "good numbers" average per race. (That is an average of 6+ per event) This would be a good place to hack (or combine) some of the classes to make the race days go by smoother. Below is a list of all the classes available, the total number of entries for that class for all three races, and the average per race. Use those numbers as you like.

I am hopeful that we see this series and organization grow (especially in the southern part of the state) Keep up the good work and spread this thing like wildfire.

You cant argue with the numbers....

So how hard would it be to do this for the entire season? The battle series drew large crowds for sure, the biggest example of this is the pro class. I know there werent that many at the average race.

Thanks for the work !

Very informative Chris, thanks for compiling that data. Wanna do it for the entire season???? please?

I cant believe the Pro class is the second highest attended class behind 250C

Ask and you shall receive... I think something small is wrong with either the point list of my program. It is showing you have never had a 250 Pro at any race beside the 3 battle races? Is that correct? Anyway, here is the data. Same format, this time divided by the total number of races (23)

That is correct, 250A and Quad A (ATV A) were Battle only classes. That's some very interesting data...it confirms a lot of my suspicions

Probably the most troubling class for me is 50cc junior.....I don't quite follow why its so low. All the others I get it.

I am with you there... Well you can add one more next year, My son will be at most of the events (The southern most tracks anyway) For sure have to combine 50 Jr and 50 beginner.
I thought 25+ would have been better. I guess when you get old, and a job. It gets tuff to run more then one class.

Hmmmmm...looks like C riders lead the way...Slow people rule? lol

Why are we tayloring tracks to Pro riders then? I know why, just being sarcastic. Someone has to beat Hershey and Georgie to it.

Half those C riders belong in B! Have one C class, in my opinion.

here is my list for the OMA.....But JO remember, don't listen to anyone, just pull the trigger!
1. Open C
2. 250 C
3. Open B
4. 250 B
5. College Boy / 25 + double gate
6. Vet 30
7. Vet 40
8. Pro Bike
9. 65 7-11
8. 85 7-11 / women (double gate)
9. 85 12-13
10. Supermini
11. Schoolboy
12. 2 stroke
13. 50 Sr / 50 Jr (double gate)
14. 50 Oil Injected
15. ATV Mini jr/sr
16. ATV Open B/C
17. ATV Open

There you have it........the schedule the way I think it should be......If the class did not make the list, then it is NOT run. 17 gate drops total. And if anything there can be combined, go ahead and double gate more.

I would agree with John's list other than the absence of 250 pro. Also wouldn't mind seeing all Vet classes to run A and B/C riders combined, but scored separate with A riders having the chance to get cash back depending on the sign-up. A Vet riders would pay pro Fees and would have to have X number of riders to get payback, otherwise they would get the difference between pro sign-up and regular sign-up fees. Just my thought. Doesn't matter to me, I'll still ride them regardless as a B vet. Guess either I can work on my starts and rutty corner skills or just race more, know exactly who are the A riders and score it myself for personal satisfaction... I wouldn't want to split up the Vet classes as I enjoy the fuller gate.

Check out TV Land you need +50

Also, I would leave the option out there for almost any class to be added at a race if there were enough to make it worth it. Just make the disclaimer that there would not be any awards or they might be left overs and/or different than the other trophies, etc. Maybe even make them OMA or Tracks Bucks only....

I know, making it complicated. 'Tis what I do...

So pro bike and quad riders show up for big purse events and per moto payout? Maybe add 250A to more select events? Fun to watch for sure. Does the increased spectator turnout pay for the pro purse? How many pros need to show up to make it worth putting up $4000? I know it can't be done all the time and the limited number of large purse events keeps the demand high. Battle of Ohio concept seems to work great for A rider turnout.

This is some valuable insight...next to actually operating an event...producing a running order each race is a difficult task! Classes was the hardest thing to come up with IMO in the formation of OMA and will still be difficult int the off-season to choose for 2014!

1. Open c
2. 250 c
3. Open b
4. 250 b
5. College boy / 25 + double gate
6. Vet 30
7. Vet 40
8. Pro bike
9. 65 7-11
8. 85 7-11 / women (double gate)
9. 85 12-13
10. Supermini
11. Schoolboy
12. 2 stroke
13. 50 sr / 50 jr (double gate)
14. 50 oil injected
15. Atv mini jr/sr
16. Atv open b/c
17. Atv open

blah blah blah....lol!

ATV classes I'd like to see for next year -
ATV A
ATV B (Fast C Riders)
ATV C (No Triple)
ATV Vet
ATV Schoolboy
ATV Women
ATV Open
Before you go and say that's too many quad classes most of those could be combined into a moto. Stagger A and B. Stagger Vet, Schoolboy and Women. ATV C usually has a good turnout and would have to be a separate moto. Right now guys in A/B, C and Vet run Open so it would have to be a separate moto as well. So that's 4 ATV motos for 7 different classes. I know there's not a lot of us quad guys and gals but we need multiple classes too.
