Honestly, I really never even considered that. But that would be a major issue if you just ran regionals where everyone showed up to try and qualify. Good catch.

Regionals are some of the best racing you’re gonna get on the amateur level, that’s why. Loretta’s is icing on the cake. You’re going to learn a bunch about real full gate racing that you won’t get at the local race. So why not double up your experience and race a couple? You’re going to get the gnarliest track conditions, racing your fastest competition at some of the best tracks that promoters are putting their absolute best efforts in.

For many just racing regionals is an accomplishment and scoring the highest finish there is the reward, and if they can weasel into grabbing a ticket, well thats when the dream is made.
Saying someone doesn’t deserve to be at Loretta’s because they raced a couple regionals or finished 30th at the ranch, please get out of here with that. There’s 100x more people out there wishing they had that opportunity to get smoked at the ranch.

A regional is much more stressful. You win or your done. Like am nfl playoff

It’s not even the holding of events that is worrisome. Spectators are the main driver of the success of the event and the money maker for promoters.

Motocross specifically you can do basic math. Each rider typically has 1 person with them. So if 250 riders show up that’s 500 people. Times a 10 dollar gate fee. That’s 5k. Then 25 a class times 250 riders 6250 in class fees. So right now we are at 11,250 for a race. Minus insurance. Minus medical crew. Minus crew and fuel. Your lucky if you came out of the event positive. You need the other 500 plus people that come and watch.

People are going to be nervous for months to get in large groups. The families with kids and their friends going to the track is going to decline initially. The aunt and uncle who wants to watch little Johnny race aren’t going to go. The family that would normally travel all over and race are going to either leave the wife and little kids at home or not go. The risk isn’t worth the reward.

Hopefully things turn positive quickly but this isn’t as easy as open the door and watch people come in.
