Action Sport June 23 & 24

I had a call on the answering machine at home from John at Seriestracker after my attempt. My AHRMA information had not been entered because I had just renewed, so he entered it for me. Mooch, he also told me registration actually closes at noon on Monday. So there still may be time for you online.

I'm wondering if the one day membership locks in your race number for you like a yearly membership does ? They are always hinting for people to give up their race number if they are not active competitors so that new members can get them . Hard to believe , with such low participation at many events , that recruitment is high enough to need more numbers than are currently available . I heard that a well known , northern Ohio , KTM/Penton , AHRMA racer is not renewing membership after many years of racing . Have also talked to others who are considering dropping out . Reasons range from health , economy , membership/race fees , and fuel costs , to the sparse attendance and gates at most events .

I just got the Husky 250 Mag up and going yesterday and am riding some tomorrow . Have been fighting a hip/ sciatic(sp?) nerve problem for the last two months , so with little seat time this year so far , will not be at Athens . Did renew my membeship though .

That 400 Husky needs an Mzb ignition and a dialed in Mikuni to start better . Timing on my Mag is absolutely critical for it to start well also .

The old worn out Amal is the problem on the 400. But I actually had it working well before last year's Action Sports AHRMA race (that must have been a fluke). And it quit working well while setting on the line! lol! Those things are so crude. Mine might be beyond a rebuild. I'll see in time...

Pre-entry list is up on the AHRMA site.

Only wish my name was on it...to say I am bumming is a major understatment as racing is my only hobby besides camping.
Sucks even worse to being kept from racing due to a non-racing injury.

Though about going to watch but that much driving does not work for me yet.

Great to have an Ohio event close to home & hope everyone has a good time!

Hmmmmm....lots of names missing from that list!
Where are Scott Stanford, Terry Bernard, Dave Bernard, Rick McGuire, Karl Poindexter, Mike Babet, Jack Babet, Greg Troyan, Mike Hartney, etc, etc, etc?
Yes I know my name isn't there either but that's because I'm racing a LL Regional. C'mon guys, support this race so it happens again!

Here is a helmet cam of the motocross track, looks great for old bikes!

My name isn't on the pre-entry list...during the entire last week that I could pre-enter for the Athens round, I couldn't get a hold of anyone at AHRMA to take my money. Apparently, they must have all been at Barber that week and didn't have time to deal with Athens pre-entries? Left voicemails and emails with 2 different people...never heard a peep back from anybody. If I'd waited until the very last day, then I'd be fine with blaming my own procrastination, but that wasn't the case.

AHRMA must have cash running out their ears if they don't feel the need to get back to people who are trying to hand some $ over to them. Well, I highly doubt that's the case, more likely they just know folks are gonna show anyways and they'll then have to fork over the higher race-day signup fees.

Based on my experience, I'd imagine there's a number of people that weren't able to pre-enter during that last week.

I tried to preregister a second time and couldn't. Apparently the system has some glitches. I plan to be there both days.

Yeah I remember you saying that. I always faxed my entry in, they didn't have the online entry the last time I raced one.

I would expect to not be paying the $60 late entry fee....

Rick McGuire and myself are going. I'm still not done piecing a bike together yet. Hopefully I'll get it done
before the weekend. Just not enough time in the day!

Last years track didn't run a couple of the jumps shown in the vid, and they had to shortcut bypass the drop down into the woods and the big hill climb out because of mud, but I only heard praises on what we did run and there was some pretty good race competition going on. And you had to look to find any rocks.

Man, it'll be great if we get to run the full course !

I got my vintage bike's transmission working again today. After wearing myself out riding all but half a lap of the GP last week with a one speed and four neutrals, I was about to give up on vintage racing for this year. But I took the bolt out out of the bottom cases that retains the shifter cam stopper and spring to find a broken spring that had jammed the stopper. What a simple transmission fix! I'm looking forward to Saturday now. And my '83 YZ 125 is running just fine for Sunday...

We'll be there in some form, doubt I'll be able to scab this thing together by then (notice the only tool visible). We might have to tag team my 1980 CR125

I know thiis is a longshot but are there any CZ racers going to Athens this weekend that have a kickstarter for a 74 CZ250?? If so, PM me.

The 2012 Ohio Vintage Cross Country and Motocross Nationals will take place this Saturday and Sunday June 23rd and 24th at the Action Sports Moto-Park located at 10700 Salem Rd. in Athens, Ohio. This is the second year that we have hosted this event and we are very excited to do it all again. Last year we had 210 riders for the three day event with less than favorable conditions; it rained off and on all weekend. The track conditions were great but the rain kept many riders away.

This year’s AHRMA sanctioned event is going to be much larger as we have well over 200 vintage cross country and motocross riders pre entered. We will also run modern motocross classes on Saturday and Sunday after the Vintage program has completed. If you race modern bikes this will be the only time you get to race on this extraordinary track this year.

The track is old school national caliber motocross. We have steep up and down hills, rolling terrain, off camber turns and strategically place jumps that go with the lie of the land. The track runs in and out of the woods like you’ve seen at Washougal and Millville and hills like Unadilla. It is truly a rider’s track where a smart thinking rider can pass using different lines than their competitors. We will run all modern bike classes on the entire track except for the 50’s.

We plan to run a 50, 65, 85, schoolboy, Open C, Open A B, and Vet modern bike classes; we will run more classes if needed. These classes will be split as needed depending on the number of riders that attend. Gate entry for this event is $15 and sign up is only $20 per class.

Don’t miss your one chance to see the bikes from the 50’s, 60’ 70’s and 80’s. Come early and watch the action and then it’s your turn to ride. Come and see why we are calling this the Mid West’s best kept motocross secret; you aren’t going to believe this track!

I hope you don't mind that I copied your update posting under the "RACE UPDATES" section. I'm not sure how many of our general viewers ever read our Old Guys and Old Bikes forum. Might raise some awareness in how this event has evolved and create further interest.

(a little late, I see you posted under MX-General forum. All good.)

CC course was about perfect and I had a blast in the hour long race. Motocross practice is starting now. I didn't sign-up for vintage MX, might do modern MX later...

When you guys get a chance post some pictures.

Looks like very nice weather & wishing good luck to all!

Jack went 1-1 and 2-1 in the Ultima 250 int and open age classes. I battled with freas to no avail every Moto. I was up front but could not hold any leads. 2 small mistakes cost me . Had a blast and jack is hooked after his first race
