Ive been up all night, government healthcare

Why do you want the government involved in health care at all? They bung up everything they try to run with corruption and red tape. You need to check on what the canadian people really have. It isnt as rosy as people are led to believe here.

Insurance companies have done so much better, eh? No corruption or red tape there.....

Do you know anybody that doesn't like "their" medicare? Yes, it can be a pain and the
cost containment means you can't have everything. But cost containment is exactly
what we are talking about.

Everywhere in the world single payer works and health care is a right. It's not in
our constitution so we ignore that it is a basic human right to have basic healthcare.
Does single payer work perfectly? No. Does it work better than what we have? Yes.

Some propaganda on the subject, with a graph no less. Doesn't it all sound so good? The useful idiots must love this nonsense from Robert B. Reich.

Healthcare isn't a right. But ask me when I'm sick, maybe my opinion will be different.

What's wrong with profit in healthcare? In the next 20 years I bet we start growing organs that are wrecked from our own tissue, and then transplant them back into us. So then we wouldn't have to use anti-rejection meds for someone that needed a liver transplant....where am I going with this?
Ok, in order to get that kind of innovation, profit needs to be made. Once you start regulating with the government where is the profitability? We get stagnate and delay innovation. Because everything becomes explicitly standardized and change becomes something only to talk about, but never to get done. But for some reason, many people like to say that big government will speed up innovation and huge breakthroughs will come through. I don't think that's the case. Otherwise the VA would be laughing at how undeveloped all the privately run hospitals are. "We came up with that procedure years ago before you did private guy" said no VA ever.

Europe consistently develops and approves new medical devices faster than the US. Indeed some jobs we recommend to our customers to start there. Making money when there is a single payer (almost all of Yurp) is no problem. Easier than here IF you are lowering cost or creating better outcomes. Otherwise you're screwed there and should introduce your product here where docs/insurance cube farms/and hospital purchasing groups decide. All corrupt. All looking to maximize their profit on the other guy's back. One might buy your device.

By the way, you should visit the VA research facility. Some really cool projects going on there right now.

Of course some parts of single payer work better.

Lets look at gov healthcare, in Canada it works great. That is until you need something like say an ACL repair. You could wait months or even years. Many health needs are not considered necessary and you have to fight to get them.

No thank you.

I've been getting reports for years from a proud dad whose physician son lives in Europe while developing a new medical device. Seems it's easy to find test subjects in former communist eastern Europe. As I understood this was in development for the US market.

Isn't the approval of such devices under the control of our federal government? So why is approval so slow here?

I work with a nurse that used to work in Canada. It ain't great. And it's not sustainable. It's ready to implode.

Regulation. Red tape. Etc. wait for another world war and see how mant advancements in medicine pop up. Won't be any regulation on what they do to people then over in the rebirth of the Soviet Union.

Not sure that would be in the fascist Putin's best interest.

What? The Democrats here aren't totalitarian enough? And then there are their establishment Republican enablers...

Been working since 1957.

Wow...there's a great argument.

I know people that lived there, the system works great for emergency room type needs. Other than that it sucks, try getting an ACL repair or something along those lines that isnt a necessity. Not happening anytime soon and with out a fight.

That's what cost control looks like. You can have insurance companies doing it (but only for people that can afford insurance with it's extra costs) like us. Or you can do it like the rest of the world and medicare. Where it works to control costs and still provide care.

What care???? Are you really that thick or do you like stirring the pot?

When I tore my ACL in the 90's, instead of getting the surgery done as soon as I was able, I may have had to wait 2-3 years for approval. And I would have had to buy my own knee brace. How is that care? It isnt.

I would still need to pay for additional insurance to cover myself for injuries and other medical needs I would want. So in Canada , if you want excellent coverage you pay out of your own pocket for yourself AND for everyone else. SO why get the government involved? Get them out now, its all effed up because of the ACA. Its isnt speculation, its fact.

Started to respond to all your speculation but that's all it is so not easy to argue. Costs in the USA are the highest in the world:
USA costs.png

while care is substandard with regards to ANY single payer system. 5400 fewer infant deaths would occur in the US if we had the same infant mortality rate as Canada. If we had the same rate of spending, we'd spend $1.3 Trillion dollars a year less (last figures I can find to verify that are from 2014). Yes, wait times to see a specialist would go up, based on the statistics Canada versus US, 33 percent of Canadians waited six days or more to see a specialist, compared with 19 percent of Americans.

You can yell and scream and get angry about it all you want. It doesn't change the fact that the Canadian system works for everybody, not just those that can afford insurance, controls cost for everybody, and gives very good health care when measured over the whole population. And if you want, you can buy even more coverage.

Maybe you should move there, deal with it and then report back. The people I know that lived there said the system sucks.

Infant mortality rates don't equate directly to health care systems either. Let's take a look at the infant mortality rates compared to pregnant drug users and other stupid choices mothers make here compared to Canada and other nations.

People from Canada fly to Cleveland when they can pay for healthcare out of pocket.
