2017 CTMX Halloween Moto Mayhem Oct 21-22

My suggestion to getting done before 5:55. Get rid of some classes or do away with the open practice and break the racing up into 2 days. Have open practice on Friday if you want. In my opinion it would be nice to have 2 shorter race days that aren’t rushed. 5:55 isn’t a bad time to be done versus 800 during the battle.
 
Especially for the battle series the people that come for practice Saturday are mostly still gonna come Friday.....I don’t mind either way sometimes I’ll show up just to race. And other times for the entire weekend. I can justify going to practice Friday and starting a good battle weekend event early!

You were spot on, dont think it was out of line about sign up at all.

Joe, no offense but your reply basically claims your track is the best at everything and any complaints are unfounded. There is always someone better, and if not there is always room for improvement. I can drive to Red Bud one hour more and have just as many or more guys on my gate and pay half what I do to race CTMX with superior track prep. Matt, and others, have given you nothing more than constructive criticism. When this many people say signup stinks .. step back take a look and ask yourself why are so many people saying this? Track prep is subjective, everyone likes something different. John259 would have loved this weekend, not near as rutted and rough as I am accustomed to at CTMX. Others hated it. Signup however, it either goes smooth or it doesnt. It didnt. One girl doing preregistered entrys simply isnt enough. And the last hour before practice you should have 2 times the people taking entries. Its like going to walmart at 530 pm and they have 2 registers open. And on top of that, you cant fix stupid. Racers are going to be late, plan for this and make their experience better.

I'm sorry that you feel the way you do but if you think for one minute that I should rethink my position on CTMX being a top notch organization you are sadly mistaken. You have your opinion and I have mine. We could line 10 girls up for registration and you would still have people coming all at once and with a large majority of them unprepared. Its a factor we have to deal with and I doubt that will ever change. We have 4 windows belting out registrations as fast as they can go. Is there room for improvement? Without a doubt! I find it amusing that you make statements like you are the only one that goes to other races. We have been to Red Bud, Muddy Creek, Baja Brawl and numerous other sizable amateur events and we know the drill. We know how long those lines are and how fast they can process riders and how much it costs so I know first hand we are inline with what they are doing. I recall going to Sunday Creek Youth Regional back in 2011 and I stood in line for a transponder for an hour and a half and then immediately got into the sign up line and stood there for another two hours! My son missed two rounds of practice. They processed a little over 800 entries that day and had twice the people working in registration. 2013 we went to the RCSX in Daytona where they had close to 900 entries and we stood in line for a close to 4 hours to sign up and everyone was pre-registered and had their transponders pre-registered as well. They had AMA reps as well as about 10 others signing people up in lines specified according to last name.

Looking back on the Moto Mayhem weekend there are some things I wish we would have done better or things we should have done to help the unprepared people but all in all I think we did a great job processing that many entries. I think some people just aren't used to going to big races and don't realize you need to make adjustments to your routine and plan accordingly. When I show up to a track I want go sign up and head back to the trailer within 5-10 minutes...who doesn't? Fact is that typically isn't going to happen unless you are at an event that has a turn out of less than 350 riders or so. I also don't feel there are as many people complaining about our sign up at the Moto Mayhem race as you claim. A hand full of people out of 771 is not worth scrapping our formula and starting over but we will take notes and make improvements.

Having said that I would like to poke a couple holes in your argument since you seem like someone that LOVES a good debate.

Please explain to me how you can race for "half" what you do at CTMX? Last I checked our prices are very competitive with other tracks. Does Red Bud offer a senior citizen discount?

If Walmart closed at 5:30 would you wait till the last hour to do all your shopping then complain because you couldn't get checkout before they close?

Since racers are always late what if when they show up late to staging or aren't ready when the card goes sideways we hold up show until they are ready?...you know so we can make "their" experience better.

You are right about one thing...you can't fix stupid!
 
I’m realizing why I no longer go to CTMX. It’s the “holier than thou” attitude. Take away the water and electric hookups and that track isn’t pulling those numbers.
Tried to bite my tongue, but with all the it’s you not us comments I figured I’d chime in too.
 
My last thoughts. I find it funny you snap shot my post and place it on Facebook, claiming this is what you have to deal with over here. If you don't like Pitracer for the feedback then get off. I ranted to harsh, I admit. Not saying I didn't mean it. I shoulda put it in more of a constructive criticism feeling. Lastly, I'll continue to defend the sign up. Too slow. Not me, you. I was prepared, I know the process. One of the reasons of the slow process was that pre-reg did not include the extra membership and confusion in the trailer. Police the pit riding speeds, not just pit vehicles but the idiots on the race bikes to and from the track. Water is good for the track in the right place. Drunks, bad. You can't control that but don't enable them. Try to get back the day stuff activities, it's a long day in between Motos, about 5 hours. Flaggers did a good job, t shirts are cool, pits as always top notch. The boy loved the track once it sat in. Yes, we will be back for the Battle, I will make changes to my preparedness to compensate for my complaints. I can fix stupid, can you?
 
I heard people complaining because they didn't know what to do to sign up. I wish pre-registration would be open longer so maybe you could keep it open until race weekend. Like I said I read the Facebook post on how to sign up and it took me about 30 mins total and I was there right around 7

They opened it back up. I signed up Thursday or Friday

Red bud vetfest......20 to get in the gate , 25 per practice and 30 per moto. Done CTMX.....30 PER NIGHT camping fee.... and you can't get around this since generators aren't allowed. There's 90, 20 bucks in the gate 25 per practice and 25 per moto and the 10 for the transponder rental. So 2 classes and 2 practices .... red bud $130 .....CTMX ... $220 Sorry, not quite half. And no offense but I'd pay more to ride red bud any day of the week over CTMX. It's a national track and there is a reason it's one of , if not the, favorite track of most pros. Oh, btw, the 30 race entry included the transponder rental too.

Funny how you left out the positive comments I said. Ignoring ways to improve sign up and basically saying your the best at it....blaming riders ..... that will be your down fall. Actually surprised by this, normally CTMX doesn't have this attitude. Normally it's a claim to make it better next time. When preregistration takes longer than track sign up you know there is a problem. But hey, we (your paying customers) are to blame. Good business plan.

Like I said before, my only real beef was sign up and the pa system ( I know the PA will be fixed for the next event). The boy likes the track, the trick or treating is a blast and the pits are top notch. We will be back. And I'm always prepared for sign up, just not the long wait in line. Maybe next year, in anticipation of such large numbers, you could have a Friday sign up till late in the night? Even if it's just one window? Many people work and don't arrive til 8-11pm. Just an idea.

Take tips from Jeremy, he is a far better public voice for CTMX.

No one is forcing you to buy a hook up. We have free primitive camping (generators are allowed in this area) you can take advantage of if you like and that will save you $30 a night. I'm not sure how you ended up spending $90 on camping when the gates didn't open until Friday at noon so the most you should have spent was $60 if you stayed both nights.

We appreciate all comments not just the positive ones but I will not sit back and let people make claims that are not entirely true or exaggerate a situation just because they are trying to drive home a point. I get it, you had a bad experience at registration but I'm not going to let your opinion spoil the overall vibe of the weekend. I encourage you to pull up a chair in the registration trailer at the next event a see for yourself what we are up against and I bet you change your views on things.

It is so easy to armchair quarterback events but until you know all aspects its not as easy as one would think. Kim and I was in the registration trailer Friday night until after midnight getting pre-registration packets together and processing all the entries that signed up earlier that evening. I left a little before 1am and Kim was still going. Registration was scheduled to close at 7pm Friday evening and Kim kept it open until after 8pm.

I know you feel like I am placing all the blame on the "paying customers" but all I am trying to do is shine a little more light on the situation. Until you have put in as much time and effort putting an event like CTMX does only to have people get on here and make claims that aren't entirely true you won't be able to see where we are coming from. There is a difference between constructive criticism and stirring the pot and we have been doing this long enough to know the difference. I stated once before that there were things that we should have done better and that we have made notes for changes for next year.

I love a good debate as much as the next guy but don't just toss out statements without knowing what you are talking about. I like comparing apples to apples.

The rule is no generators in the general camping area where the hook ups are. We do this so the people paying for hook ups don't have to listen to loud obnoxious generators all night.

The primitive camping area is the big grass field beside the start stretch and staging. Generators are allowed in that area and there is no cost to camp. There was a time that we would not allow generators and didn't offer primitive camping but we changed that at the beginning of last year I think it was. If I had to put a number on it I'd say there is typically 15-25 primitive campers per race.

I will make sure this information is spelled out a little better in the future.

If that is the primitive camping no thanks cause every time I took the dog for a walk in that area we had to dodge bikes flying by 5th gear wide open all weekend we were park right by there and watch this go on all weekend and no one every said a thing to them thats a danger zone and since were on danger ive raced for 33 yrs and I never seen something so stupid as to start a race with 36 kids in the 65 open class with a guy still laying on the side of the rollers from the race before so the kids race to first corner and then have cautions down the rollers and that dark should have just called it not endangered the lives of kids that was enough for me your a hell of a promoter but thats where I draw the line I believe there use be another track with the same attitude years ago in Newcomerstown the last riders meeting went he told us we need him he doesnt need us good luck in the future

The pit riding starts with the parents. These parents know their kids are not allowed to be riding pit bikes but they still do it. We try to police it the best we can but our security guys can't be everywhere at once and these kids are smart. They know how to not get caught. Every race we park violators and we still get complaints. Next year we might just hire on local law enforcement and let them escort people to the gate. We definitely don't want to ban pit vehicles again but it is getting close to that once again. We will likely discuss changes for 2018 regarding pit vehicles.
 
I was in the area of the loud obnoxious pa system I went to tell staff members some said they would look into it I never seen anybody come over to look at fixing it .I rather listen to generator all day long
 
I was at a AWESOME track a few months ago in NY and there was a issue with pit vehicles, we told the promoter and they made a announcement over the PA that anyone caught riding a pit vehicles from that time on would be DQed. Guess what...problem solved! You can't count on parents policing this, sometimes they are just as bad!

Trust me when I say we had our guys working on it. The PA was without a doubt the biggest complaint we had on the weekend. Our IT guy did everything he could possibly do to get it working and even tried unhooking it so the areas that were going nuts wouldn't have to listen to the horrible noise. The fairgrounds upgraded to fiber optics a few weeks before and left us with not a lot of time to test and tune. We brought in the contractor the fairboard used to install the system and paid them a chunk of change to make our system work with the upgraded system. Obviously they missed their mark. It will be fixed before the next event and we apologize to all those that had to endure that mess!

We have DQ'd kids before, impounded pit bikes, revoked pit vehicle passes, etc and they still do it. A big problem we see happen is people don't report it until after the fact and we can't catch them. We typically get people complaining after the event but by then its too late. There are people that will send us facebook messages or come to registration and let us know and we always follow up on those. What doesn't work is calling the number on the website and leaving a message. A lot of time those messages don't get returned until much later. The most effective method is videoing the kids/violators and messaging us on facebook or coming to registration then we have evidence of them violating the rules. Too many times we follow up and the kid is sitting at the pit doing nothing so its hard to do much if we don't catch them in the act or have proof that they were breaking the rules.
